Britain’s Emma Raducanu made history here on Thursday by crushing world No.18 Maria Sakkari of Greece 6-1, 6-4 in the women’s singles semifinals of the U.S. Open.
With the victory, Raducanu ranked just No. 150 in the world, becomes the first qualifier to reach a Grand Slam final in Open era history.
“Is there any expectation?” Raducanu asked the crowd after the game. “I’m a qualifier, so technically on paper there’s no pressure on me.”
Nicknamed ‘Magic Brit’, Raducanu will next play another youngster Fernandez of Canada in the Grand Slam final.
