Politeknik Brunei celebrates over 600 graduates, introduces new Level 5 programme with MoH

Six hundred and eighty-six students from Politeknik Brunei (PB) graduated with flying colours at the institution’s eighth convocation ceremony held at International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.

The class of 2022 comprised 209 students who received their Level 5 Diploma from School of Business, 131 students from School of Information and Communication Technology, 222 students from School of Science and Engineering and 124 students from School of Health Sciences.

In his opening remarks, Acting Director of Politeknik Brunei Lim Kian Boon said that the results of the Graduate Destination Study conducted for 18 months after the students showed that the graduate employment rate is 77.2 per cent.

“In addition, the Employer Satisfaction Study has also given a positive response which overall, 95.9 percent of employers have been satisfied with the quality work and performance of Brunei Polytechnic graduates who work with them,” said Lim who is also the chairman of the executive and working committee of the convocation ceremony,

This percentage rate proves the quality and preparedness of PB graduates in adapting themselves to the working world.

At the same time, the study gave PB the opportunity to review and integrate new skills required by the industry to be incorporated into the Academic, Training and Enrichment Programmes.

The acting director added that in order to respond to the challenge of digital transformation in the country’s education system, the institution has actively planned, studied and applied teaching practices that suit the needs of their students.

Additionally, the institute has also adopted the Politeknik Brunei Learning Management System since 2014 and will continue to support the transformation agenda.

“I am also happy to share about the Hybrid-Flexible or HyFlex technology that has been actively implemented here to enable the integration of creative pedagogy with the latest technology to help strengthen the quality of teaching and learning at Politeknik Brunei through the Blended Teaching and Learning method,” he further said.

These efforts are aimed at generating graduates who are innovative and ready for the future in line with Politeknik Brunei’s Vision, for national development towards realising the aspirations of Brunei Vision 2035.

In this connection, the Politeknik Brunei Development Plan for the year 2021 to 2025 is now being actively implemented with strategic projects that lead the institute towards becoming the main provider of quality and high-quality technical higher education in order to achieve the goals of National Vision 2035.

He also added that among the strategic initiatives that have been actively implemented is the Politeknik Brunei Human Resource Competency Framework Development.

Strategic relationships are also an initiative of the institute to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and the industry.

Through this initiative, PB will be able to offer International Internship Programmes to their students to provide exposure, and experience living and studying abroad as well as a new culture, which can support the self-development of the students.

In addition, the institute has also collaborated with the Ministry of Health to offer a Level 5 Diploma in Diabetes Nurse Educator (DNE) Programme to further improve the knowledge and skills of nurses in the specialization of teaching people with Diabetes in dealing with their daily lives.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to the Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Her Excellency Yu Hong for the special award of the ‘Chinese Ambassador Award’,” said Lim.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah Haji Mohammed Salleh who presented certificates to the graduates.

The event also presented ‘Best Student Award’, ‘Academic Excellence Award’, ‘Enrichment Excellence Award’ and ‘Innovation Award’ followed by the first-ever ‘Chinese Ambassador Award’ given by Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Yu Hong to 14 students.
