Tourism Malaysia targets a 10.6 per cent increase in arrivals from Brunei in 2024 compared to 1.21 million arrivals in 2019, said the Director of Tourism Malaysia Brunei.
Hazrina Azman in her speech at the recent Tourism Malaysia Appreciation High-Tea event highlighted that to attract tourists from Brunei to visit Malaysia, they will pursue all available avenues and look forward to exploring more collaborations in the future.
The director added that in 2023, Tourism Malaysia Brunei participated in 24 projects and worked with numerous partners, from airlines, travel agents, media, bloggers and private sectors.
“We believe that this was partly contributed to the arrivals to Malaysia that were recorded at 574,856 (from January to September in 2023) with a total receipt of RM1.26 billion as compared to the same period in 2022 which was recorded only at 87,038,” she said.
Whereas in 2019, Bruneian arrivals were recorded at 929,789 in that period, she added.
On his part, the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Dato Raja Reza Raja Zaib Shah hoped to see more visitors from Brunei visit places beyond Miri and Kota Kinabalu such as Perlis, Kelantan and Terengganu.
He further said that there also needs to be an increase in the number of flight frequencies between Malaysia and Brunei, as well as new destinations like Langkawi and Penang.
He also said that many states in Malaysia are organising their ‘Visit Malaysia Year’ including Visit Melaka 2024, Visit Perlis 2024, Visit Perak 2024, and Visit Kelantan 2024-2025.
During the course of the event, guests had the chance to enjoy quizzes, games and a delectable selection of dishes.
