Sahur Sengkarai gathers local vendors, community

Sahur Sengkarai is back with its fourth pop-up market, gathering over 20 food vendors in its weekly initiative held throughout the fasting month.

Hosted by local business Aliqpombunai and supported by the Sengkarai Village Consultative Council (MPK), the Tutong-based night event gathered hundreds of patrons from among the local community.

Thanks to its strategic location between Brunei-Muara and Belait Districts, visitors and commuters across districts have an easy access to stop by for their sahur or pre-dawn meals.

Since its inception in 2021, Sahur Sengkarai has been a positive platform for small local vendors to do business and engage with their consumers face-to-face.

Just like in previous years, the sahur event is held three days a week during Ramadhan and attract numerous of people from all walks of life.

In an interview, the founder of Aliqpombunai said that the initiative aimed to create opportunities to local vendors consisting of youth entrepreneurs from Tutong and other districts to market their products.

“Sahur Sengkarai has become a trademark for Tutong District and the go-to place for patrons to have some good night out while having their sahur in an open-air concept,” said Khaliq Roziman.

He added that the pop-up market is held on the weekends; 21-23 March, 28-20 March and 4-6 April starting from 9pm until 1am.

Some of the vendors include The Saucysside Livecook, Abang Shish, Cakoi New York, Peaks, Uncburn, Mikkusu, The Umai Bn and M’s Brew, among others.

The opening night of the fourth Sahur Sengakarai was attended by Acting District Officer of Tutong Mohammad Sofian Haji Basri and Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Abdul Aziz Haji Hamdan.
