Present at the reception were representatives from the Tourism Development Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and Royal Brunei Airlines.

Indonesia has consistently been one of Brunei Darussalam’s top 10 source markets for tourism arrivals by air. As of December 2024, Brunei has already welcomed 25,974 tourists from Indonesia, a significant increase that surpassed the total arrivals of 13,672 recorded for 2023.

This notable increase highlights Brunei’s appeal to Indonesian travellers, who are drawn to our rich Islamic experience, authentic heritage and diverse culinary offerings.

Director of the Tourism Development Department Salinah Salleh emphasised the significance of this growing connection.

“Strengthening our connectivity not only enhances travel opportunities but also deepens cultural and business exchanges. By working together, we can create seamless travel experiences, opening doors for more visitors to explore the unique offerings of both Brunei and Indonesia,” she said.

The launch of a direct flight from Balikpapan is expected to further strengthen this upward trend, providing more convenient travel options and encouraging even greater numbers of visitors from Indonesia in the coming years.
