Oui Boutique isn’t just a place—it’s an experience! A one-of-a-kind spot where you can shop for trendy outfits and sip on delicious coffee at the same time.
Founded by Aiko Lim in 2021, the business started as an online clothing store before evolving into a boutique and, later, a cafe in December 2022.
“We started from just an online clothing business,” Aiko recalled.
“But because my mom had a storage container business at the same place, she asked me to help her during COVID. That’s when we started selling clothes here and then my sister got interested in making coffee.”

With no experience but plenty of passion, Aiko and her sister taught themselves how to brew the perfect cup, practising at home before finally launching their cafe.
Their first creation? The Black Sunset—an eye-catching blend of orange and Americano that’s still a crowd favourite!
At first, marketing was tricky, since both the boutique and cafe shared a single Instagram account.

“For the first six months, most of our cafe customers were either boutique shoppers or walk-ins,” the 26-year-old explained.
“Eventually, I opened a separate Instagram for the cafe, which helped target the right audience.”
Growing the Business
As luck would have it, an opportunity to expand came knocking.
“We were originally operating in half a shop lot, but the tenant next door, who sold gym equipment, decided to retire. He asked if we wanted to take over, and we thought—why not?”

With more space, Oui Boutique welcomed more customers, introduced exciting new drinks and created an even cosier vibe.
From a quiet little cafe, it has since grown into a bustling hotspot.
“It’s been three years now and it’s great to see our marketing efforts paying off,” Aiko shares. These days, she handles marketing and design herself, even hiring students to give them a chance to showcase their creativity.
The Ups and Downs of Running a Business
Jumping into business at a young age was no walk in the park.
“I didn’t have much experience in management or marketing,” Aiko admits. “I wasn’t ready when the opportunity came, but I’ve always wanted to own something of my own, so I just learned along the way.”
From managing staff to handling social media and growing the business, she picked up skills through trial and error, taking advice from employees, friends and family.

What started with just one barista has now grown into a team of ten, including part-timers.
Customer service is a big deal here.
“Many of our staff are students with little experience, so we make sure they understand the importance of good service,” said Aiko. “No one wants to encounter rude staff when they go out for coffee!”
Must-Try Drinks and Future Plans
Oui Boutique is best known for its Strawberry Matcha—the best-selling Matcha drink!

Popular picks include tiramisu and cheesecakes, perfect with their drinks.
With a Japanese industrial aesthetic, the space is stylish yet inviting, and seasonal drinks keep things exciting.

Looking ahead, Aiko has big plans—starting with a second branch in Kuala Belait!
“We’d love to serve customers in the Belait district who may not always have the opportunity to come down to Bandar.”
Words of Wisdom for Young Entrepreneurs
To anyone thinking of starting a business, Aiko has one piece of advice:
“Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Try, even if you fail—just keep going and eventually, you’ll achieve your goals.”

Bringing the Brand to the People
Oui Boutique is no stranger to pop-ups!
“I work at Thryffy during the daytime and events are organised from time to time. That’s when I decided to join their pop-ups,” Aiko shared.
From the Panaga Summer Festival in Seria and even a pop-up in Miri with Brunei Tourism, each event helps them reach new customers.
“We were so excited to expand to Miri—our friends there have been asking to try our drinks! These kinds of events help us reach a younger audience, especially those who may not be able to drive to our cafe.”
With its unique concept, strong community spirit and exciting growth, Oui Boutique is well on its way to becoming a Brunei favourite.

So whether you’re here for the fashion, the coffee or both, one thing’s for sure—you’re in for a treat.
“Come by, have a blast and enjoy our drinks and cakes!” said Aiko.
