The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, through its Tourism Development Department, recently organised a three-day familiarisation (FAM) trip for 13 travel agents from Chennai, India. The initiative, held in collaboration with Royal Brunei Airlines, local travel agencies, and accommodation providers, aimed to promote Brunei Darussalam as a compelling destination for Indian travellers.
Held from 22 to 24 April 2025, the trip followed an earlier engagement in Chennai in October 2024, where Brunei’s tourism potential was presented to key industry players. By offering a first-hand experience, the programme sought to deepen the agents’ understanding of Brunei’s attractions, enabling them to market the destination more effectively to their clients. The visit also fostered discussions on potential partnerships between Indian and Bruneian travel stakeholders.

During their stay, the agents attended an introductory session highlighting Brunei’s cultural and natural attractions, followed by a curated itinerary. Key sites included the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque, Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, Kampong Ayer, the Royal Regalia Museum, and Ulu Temburong National Park. The group also experienced the newly upgraded mangrove river safari, offering a fresh perspective on Kampong Ayer’s scenic beauty.
A networking and feedback session provided an opportunity to explore future collaborations and tailor marketing strategies for the Indian market, particularly South India.

With India emerging as a key growth market, Brunei is actively enhancing its appeal to Indian travellers. The recent launch of Royal Brunei Airlines’ direct Chennai-Brunei route has improved accessibility, and the Tourism Development Department plans further engagements in 2025, including trade events, digital campaigns, and additional FAM trips.
