Gleneagles JPMC, the sole tertiary cardiac centre in Brunei, is now among the first in Asia to adopt the Philips Azurion 7 B12/12, a high-precision imaging system that pairs advanced biplane technology with real time Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for sharper cardiovascular interventions.
This cutting-edge system positions Gleneagles JPMC at the forefront of image-guided therapy in the region.
It is among a selected group of leading centres globally to offer a platform that integrates high-definition IVUS and OCT – two of the most advanced intravascular imaging technologies – on a single, seamless interface improving the workflow of the catheterisation lab.

The new system upgrade further boosts the hospital’s commitment in strive to continuously raise its standards as a leading cardiac centre.
The biplane system features dual 12-inch detectors that deliver exceptional imaging clarity from multiple angles, enabling greater precision and improved outcomes in complex interventional cardiology and electrophysiology procedures.
The system’s intuitive touch-screen control at the table side also enhances workflow, reduces delays, and allows clinicians to make quicker, more informed decisions in real time.

In his speech, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles JPMC Dr Peter Tay said that that the new biplane system enhances the ability to perform minimally invasive, image-guided procedures, reducing the need for open surgery and helping patients recover faster, with less discomfort and risk. It also supports the hospital’s commitment to safety, offering high-quality imaging while reducing radiation exposure to both patients and our staff.
“This is not just an upgrade; it is a transformational leap in the way we deliver cardiac care. We are proud to be one of the first few cardiac labs in Asia to offer this level of advanced imaging technology,” he said.
In 2024 alone, Gleneagles JPMC managed 1,915 patients from Brunei and abroad, completing 3,979 procedures across a wide range of disciplines: 2,111 coronary procedures, 1,000 imaging procedures, 135 device implantations, 121 electrophysiology ablations, 65 structural heart interventions and 476 peripheral cases. These figures highlight Gleneagles JPMC’s reputation as a high-volume, high-performance heart centre and now, one that operates with the most advanced biplane technology available in the region.

The launch of the Philips Azurion 7 B12/12 represents more than just a technological upgrade. It is a reaffirmation of Gleneagles JPMC’s unwavering commitment to delivering world-class, patient-centred heart care in Brunei and beyond.
In attendance at the launching ceremony was Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah, in his capacity as Chairman of Gleneagles JPMC.
Also present were members of the Board of Directors, healthcare officials from private and public sector and the management of Gleneagles JPMC.
