Malaysian Association appoints new members for 2024-2026

The Malaysian Association in Brunei Darussalam (PWM) recently named its new Executive Committee and Board of Advisors for the 2024–2026 term during its Installation Night event.

Held at the Radisson Hotel, the event was attended by His Excellency Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam, as the guest of honour.

The reception gathered the association’s long-time supporters, special guests, media representatives, and officers of the Malaysian High Commission in Brunei, celebrating a strong tradition of leadership transition and community service.

The Installation Night is a longstanding tradition held every two years following its General Election. The ceremony signifies not only the appointment of new leaders but also a symbolic passing of responsibility, vision, and purpose to those entrusted to serve the association and the wider Malaysian community in Brunei.

In his address, Azlan Ahmad, newly elected for a third term as President, expressed sincere appreciation to the outgoing committee for their dedication and service, warmly welcomed the newly appointed members, and extended his heartfelt gratitude to PWM members and the High Commission of Malaysia for their continued trust, encouragement, and unwavering support.

“To serve and lead this association for another term is a great honour. The Malaysian Association has come a long way in its 34 years, growing stronger each year. This evening is a reaffirmation of our commitment to unity, progress, and shared values that bind Malaysians together here in Brunei,” he said.

Azlan, a long-standing member of Persatuan Warganegara Malaysia, has played a pivotal role in advancing the association’s mission. Under his leadership, PWM has broadened its impact through enhanced community service initiatives, stronger business engagement, and expanded welfare programmes that benefit Malaysians residing in Brunei.

The ceremony featured the presentation of certificates to the newly elected Executive Committee, as well as certificates of appreciation to those who served during the 2022–2024 term. The newly appointed Board of Advisors was also formally introduced and welcomed.

The evening also served as a platform to highlight the association’s upcoming flagship event — the Academic Excellence Awards 2025, to be held this August in conjunction with Malaysia’s Merdeka celebrations.

“Tonight is not just about celebration, it’s about setting the tone for the work ahead,” said Ling Bing Leh, PWM’s newly elected Deputy President.

The association took the opportunity to express sincere appreciation to the Government of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the peace, stability, and opportunities extended to the Malaysian community over the decades.

With a refreshed committee, renewed focus, and the continued support of its community, the association is set to further strengthen its role in representing Malaysians in Brunei through impactful programmes in education, culture, sports and charitable outreach.

The evening concluded with a group photo session and a celebratory dinner, all in the spirit of community, gratitude and progress.
