Radisson Hotel Brunei Darussalam recently hosted an awareness session led by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), highlighting the vital role of the hospitality sector in the fight against human trafficking.
Held In recognition of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the talk was part of the hotel’s ongoing commitment to community welfare, public education and responsible business practices.
The session was hosted with the Human Trafficking Investigation Unit (USPM) under the Criminal Investigation Department with the aim to educate hotel staff on how to identify and respond to signs of trafficking, with a particular focus on the unique challenges faced in the hospitality industry.

Hotel frontliners, including receptionists, housekeeping personnel, and security staff were briefed on how to detect potential victims, recognise red flags and understand the methods traffickers use to exploit individuals.
Officers from USPM provided real-life case studies of successful prosecutions since the unit’s establishment in 2011, illustrating the tell-tale patterns of trafficking activity and underscoring the importance of early intervention.

“We believe that hotels have a unique role in supporting national efforts to combat human trafficking,” said General Manager of Radisson Hotel Brunei Darussalam Miriam Wolber.
“By partnering with the Royal Brunei Police Force, we aim to empower our team and the wider community with the knowledge to help prevent exploitation and protect the vulnerable,” she added.

The session also highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and the private sector. Officers shared how effective communication and coordination with hotels have, in the past, led to disrupted trafficking operations and the rescue of victims.
The initiative forms part of Radisson Hotel Group’s global Responsible Business program, which advocates for human rights, ethical hospitality, and the protection of vulnerable communities.

Through education and engagement, the programme aims to ensure that hotel environments remain safe spaces for all.
As human trafficking remains a significant global and regional issue, such partnerships represent a proactive step in strengthening national capacity to respond and protect those at risk.
The Royal Brunei Police Force continues to call on businesses and members of the public to stay informed and vigilant, reinforcing the message that combatting trafficking is a shared responsibility.
