Youth-led innovation took centre stage at a forum recently, as industry leaders gathered to discuss strategies for empowering a new generation of Malay entrepreneurs and strengthening Brunei’s economic future.
The discussion was part of the sixth edition of the ‘Bual Bicara Ekonomi Melayu (BBEM)’, organised by the Brunei Malay Entrepreneurs Federation (PPPMB) at the Baiduri Enterprise Hub.
The talk session, themed “Youth-Led Innovation: The Future of Malay Entrepreneurs”, gathered numerous PPPMB members and guests. The event was held in conjunction with the celebration of Youth Day, emphasising the important role of youth in driving the economy.

The primary objective of the session was to bridge the generational gap and foster a deeper understanding of youth-led innovation. It aimed to empower all Malay entrepreneurs, regardless of age, to adapt, grow, and collectively shape a sustainable and prosperous future for Brunei’s economy.
A moderated panel session featured three experienced panellists who shared valuable insights from their respective fields, namely, Rayyan Sufia, Sairul Rhymin Mohamed and Dannie Azzura Haji Abu Basrah.
The opening ceremony began with a welcoming address by the President of PPPMB, Dr. Haji Abdul Latif Haji Chuchu, followed by an overview of the session by Deputy President of Commerce of PPPMB Hj Suni Hj Sulaiman.

The 20-minute panel discussion fostered an interactive dialogue, exploring the synergies between experienced wisdom and innovative approaches. A subsequent Question & Answer session also saw active participation from members, who had the opportunity to gain direct insights from the panellists.
“Programmes such as BBEM provide a vital platform for the sharing of views and experiences within the business community. The intergenerational exchange of ideas is one of the elements that can contribute to sustained economic development,” said Isa Liew, Head of Business Banking, Baiduri Bank.

A closing address by Deputy President of Economy of PPPMB Rizan Latif summarised the key takeaways from the session, highlighting the importance of intergenerational collaboration and a resilient spirit in the face of change. The event concluded with a token of appreciation ceremony for the panellists and a note of thanks to Baiduri Enterprise Hub for their support.
PPPMB remains committed to its mission of empowering Malay entrepreneurs, driving economic growth, and building a resilient and competitive business community in Brunei Darussalam. Events such as the BBEM serve as crucial platforms in achieving these goals.
