ISB celebrates IB Diploma success at Board of Directors Achievement Awards

International School Brunei (ISB) honoured its Class of 2025 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma graduates during the annual ISB Board of Directors Achievement Awards Ceremony at the ISB Theatre, celebrating another year of academic excellence.

The event was graced by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah; Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim; Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah; Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman; and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Faathimah Az-Zahraa’ Raaihanul Bolkiah.

The Board of Directors Achievement Awards began in 2018, marking the eighth year the awards have been presented to ISB’s top IB achievers, together with financial bursaries to contribute to the cost of their tertiary education.

ISB achieved an average score of 33.5 points in the May 2025 IB examinations, surpassing the global average of 30.58. From a cohort of 71 students, 27 graduates received awards in recognition of their outstanding results. 

This year, two students, Ayden Chung and Precious Tan, received the Silver Excellence Award after scoring 42 and 40 points respectively.

Twelve students, including Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim, were presented with Bronze Excellence Awards for achieving between 37 and 39 points, while a further 26 graduates received Achievement Awards for improving their results by at least five points above their individual baselines.

In his remarks, ISB Board Chairman Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmad bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Di-Raja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa praised ISB’s pioneering role in offering the IB Diploma Programme in Brunei for over two decades.

“We have seen firsthand how the IB’s rigorous and holistic programme develops resilient, creative and confident learners, equipping them not only with academic and conceptual knowledge, but also with the essential skills to succeed in higher education and beyond. At ISB, we are proud to uphold this tradition of excellence by fostering an environment that cultivates community, compassion and strong character.”

He also highlighted that the awards not only recognise top achievers but also those who demonstrate remarkable academic progress, reflecting ISB’s inclusive ethos and commitment to nurturing lifelong learners.

“Each year we take great pride in our IB cohorts for receiving prestigious scholarships and gaining admission to leading universities around the world – and this year is no exception,” he added.

Executive Principal Dominic Morley also lauded the students’ resilience and achievements, attributing their success to years of hard work supported by teachers, parents and peers. 

 “I am proud that, as a truly inclusive school, where everyone excels, at ISB we consistently provide all our students with an excellent education. As these results also show, we also achieve exceptionally high academic performance,” he said.

Featuring as a guest speaker was Mr. Fauzi Said, an ISB alumnus and IB graduate of the Class of 2009 who went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Geology with Geophysics at the University of Leicester and is now a Senior Analyst for Carbon Management at Wood Mackenzie in Singapore. 

In video remarks, he shared his experience with the IB Diploma Programme at ISB and how it helped prepare him for success, highlighting three key takeaways from his time at ISB:“One, embrace the power of balance; two, always be curious and explore further; and three, always see good in the people around you.”

The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from Silver Excellence Award recipient and 2023-2025 Ministry of Education scholar Ayden Chung, who expressed his gratitude to ISB, the ISB Board of Directors, the Ministry of Education, teachers, and his parents.

In addition to celebrating the graduates’ achievements, the event marked the final farewell for the Year 13 students as they embark on their university endeavours all over the world.

The IB results achieved by the Year 13 cohort of 2025 underline ISB’s track record of academic excellence as an inclusive school and reinforce the school’s position as the premier choice for IB education in Brunei Darussalam, preparing students for success on the world stage.

Also in attendance from the MoE were Acting Director of the Department of Scholarship Management Rosimah Sumaimah binti Haji Matassim and Acting Head of Centre for the Development of Gifted and Talented Education (EDGE) Hajah Nor Amy Hamimah binti Haji Matamit.

Members of the ISB Board of Directors were also present including Deputy Board Chairman Nicholas King, Haji Rashid Abdul Razak, Roy David Kurian, Sharon Tan and Jorge Francisco Vega with ISB General Manager Vienna Law.
