Tourism Malaysia unveiled its 2026 Calendar of Events (COE) during the Global Travel Meet (GTM) 2025 gala dinner at Sunway Resort Hotel, Selangor, marking a key milestone in the country’s preparations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
The launch took place alongside the inaugural GTM, which gathered 400 local tourism players, 600 international buyers and 100 foreign media representatives, in what was described as Malaysia’s first large-scale international travel trade event.

In his remarks, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing highlighted the need for Malaysia to keep its tourism offerings dynamic and appealing to global audiences.
He noted that while Malaysia is home to diverse attractions – from waterfalls and rainforests to cultural heritage sites – many overseas travel agents are still unfamiliar with them.

“We cannot keep relying on the same destinations we promoted a decade ago. What we must showcase are new and exciting experiences that highlight the richness of our country,” he said.
The minister urged industry players to raise service standards and diversify tourism products.
He also responded to feedback from visitors calling for more entertainment options, assuring that the ministry is working towards developing a more vibrant yet family-friendly nightlife and leisure environment.

“Our aim is for tourists to enjoy Malaysia in a safe and transparent setting, while also helping local businesses thrive,” he added.
Tiong further highlighted the importance of two-way tourism, noting that Malaysia must not only draw international visitors but also provide its citizens with opportunities to learn more about other destinations.

“Next year, we may allow international agents and tourism players to promote their countries here, giving Malaysians more choices and a chance to engage with the world,” he said.
The gala dinner and calendar launch were seen as a significant step forward in positioning Malaysia as a leading destination in the region, setting the tone for stronger international collaboration in the years ahead.
