Royal Brunei Airlines launches high-speed inflight internet with RB SkyConnect

Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) has launched its high-speed inflight connectivity service, RB SkyConnect, making it the first airline in Asia to adopt a multi-orbit system.

The service, which officially commenced on 18 November 2025 through a partnership with global satellite provider SES, enables passengers to browse the internet, send messages, work, and stream content seamlessly from boarding until landing.

Captain Sabirin Haji Abdul Hamid, Chief Executive Officer of RB, stated that the service reflects the airline’s commitment to innovation and enhancing the guest experience.

“We are proud to introduce RB SkyConnect, which represents the next generation of inflight connectivity for our guests,” he said. “We believe that staying connected in the air is now a necessity, and we are delighted to partner with SES to make this a reality.” The system is designed to provide reliable, high-speed internet across RB’s network in the Asia-Pacific region.

The technology behind RB SkyConnect utilises SES’s advanced multi-orbit system, which connects to both geostationary and low-Earth orbit satellites. This is enabled by an electronically steered array antenna, ensuring stable and uninterrupted service. Enrique Villasenor, SES VP of Aviation Sales, commented, “By becoming Asia’s first airline to adopt multiorbit inflight connectivity, Royal Brunei is giving passengers the same fast, dependable internet they expect at home, wherever they fly.”

The first successful installation was completed on one of the airline’s Airbus A320neo aircraft by RB’s own Engineering team, including its Avionics and Structures divisions, with support from SES. The full fleet installation across all A320neo aircraft is expected to be completed by May 2026.

The official launch event was attended by senior government officials, including Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, Minister of Development and Chairman of Royal Brunei Airlines; Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications; and Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Deputy Chairman of Royal Brunei Airlines. They were joined by members of RB’s Board of Directors, management, partners, and media representatives.

With this launch, Royal Brunei Airlines continues to strengthen its position as a leading regional carrier focused on guest comfort, innovation, and service excellence.
