BDCB launches commemorative coins, gold foil for Royal Diamond Jubilee

The Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) has issued special commemorative products to honour the Diamond Jubilee Wedding Anniversary of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha.

The announcement was made by Executive Director of Currency Management at BDCB, Pengiran Maslina Pengiran Haji Mahmud, during a press conference where the new collection, comprising legal tender coins and a debut gold foil, was unveiled.

Pengiran Maslina said that the commemorative products are a tribute to the enduring legacy and unity of Their Majesties.

“We are particularly proud to introduce our first-ever commemorative gold foil as part of this historic celebration. The collection symbolises the nation’s reverence for the Royal couple’s 60-year union,” she said.

The products consist of three coins—gold, silver and cupronickel—alongside BDCB’s inaugural gold foil.

Each item features a portrait of Their Majesties taken during the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the International Convention Centre in 2017.

The design is adorned with the motif of the traditional woven fabric “Kain Si Lubang Bangsi,” recognised for its cultural significance, and incorporates the number “60” expressed in both Roman and Jawi numerals. The reverse of the gold foil displays the personal crests of His Majesty and Her Majesty, symbolising the sovereignty and steadfastness of the beloved royal institution.

Commenting on the unique design elements, Pengiran Maslina added that the incorporation of the ‘Kain Si Lubang Bangsi’ motif and the dual numeral script is a deliberate homage to our rich cultural heritage, seamlessly woven into this tribute for Their Majesties. This fusion of tradition and commemoration aims to create a lasting memento of the Jubilee.
