Driving the JAECOO J7
Our drive began from the OMODA and JAECOO showroom in Beribi, cruising towards the Telanai area before merging onto the Katok Highway and continuing along the Jerudong-Tungku Highway.
The varied route allowed us to test the SUV across city traffic, open highways and multiple roundabouts, ideal conditions to explore its different driving modes and overall road behaviour.
On urban roads, the J7 PHEV felt composed and easy to manoeuvre. Steering was light yet responsive, making tight corners and roundabouts effortless. The auto tilt side mirrors when reversing proved especially useful in tighter spaces.
Once on the Jerudong Tungku Highway, we tested its acceleration and cruising capabilities. Powered by JAECOO’s Super Hybrid System SHS and a turbocharged 1.5-litre Deep Miller Cycle engine, the SUV delivered confident and smooth acceleration. Power came in seamlessly with minimal noise intrusion, reflecting the refined engineering behind the hybrid system.
Switching between driving modes highlighted the vehicle’s adaptability, from efficient cruising to more responsive performance when needed. Even at higher speeds, the SUV remained stable and well-planted, with its suspension engineered for durability and comfort across varying road surfaces.
With an impressive range of up to 1,300 km NEDC, the J7 PHEV offers strong potential for long-distance journeys, reducing range anxiety while maintaining excellent fuel efficiency. The addition of 40 kW DC fast charging further enhances convenience for drivers on the go.
Safety and technology are equally prioritised. The SUV comes equipped with eight airbags, a Driver Monitoring System and a suite of intelligent driver assistance features, delivering reassurance behind the wheel.
Modern classic strength on the road
On the exterior, the J7 PHEV strikes a balance between luxury and rugged strength. Its bold front fascia, aerodynamic wheels and flush door handles contribute not only to aesthetics but also to improved efficiency.

Entertainment is elevated by a Sony eight-speaker sound system with extensive frequency tuning, delivering crisp and immersive audio throughout the drive.
Other highlights include a built-in Digital Video Recorder dashcam, remote passenger seat adjustment and automatic engine start-stop functionality, removing the need for a traditional start button.
