Brunei Darussalam’s new family of banknotes will officially enter circulation across the sultanate from Monday, 9 March 2026.
The Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) confirmed that the new series – featuring the BND1, BND5, BND10, BND100 and BND500 denominations – will be available through local banks from next week, subject to stock availability.
The notes were initially unveiled by the central bank in September 2025.
Designed with enhanced security features in line with global currency advancements, the new banknotes aim to reinforce the integrity of Brunei’s currency and strengthen protection against counterfeiting.

BDCB said the initiative reflects its commitment to maintaining secure and reliable banknotes, acknowledging that cash continues to play a vital role even as the nation progresses toward a digital economy.
The central bank has assured the public that all existing banknotes will remain legal tender and will continue to circulate alongside the new series without disruption.
