Grand Motors Sdn Bhd recently invited members of the media to get behind the wheel of the newly launched Jaecoo J7 Petrol, offering a firsthand experience of its performance, comfort and intelligent technology on local roads.

Driving the Jaecoo J7 Petrol
The drive began from the LaparKu Cafe by CoCo Cafe, heading through urban roads before merging onto the highway network around Gadong and Tungku.
The route provided a mix of traffic conditions, open stretches and roundabouts, allowing a comprehensive assessment of the SUV’s capabilities.
In city conditions, the J7 Petrol felt smooth and easy to handle. Steering was light yet precise, making manoeuvring through tighter roads and parking areas effortless. Visibility was enhanced by the elevated driving position and the 540-degree around view monitor.
On the highway, the 1.6-litre turbocharged engine came into its own, delivering 194 horsepower and 290Nm of torque.
Moreover, acceleration was responsive yet controlled, with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission ensuring seamless gear changes.
Switching between Eco, Normal and Sport modes highlighted the vehicle’s adaptability. Eco mode provided efficient cruising, while Sport mode offered sharper throttle response for more dynamic driving.
Even at higher speeds, the SUV remained stable and well planted.
The suspension system absorbed road imperfections effectively, contributing to a comfortable and composed ride throughout the journey.
Refinement inside the cabin
Inside, the J7 Petrol impresses with its quiet cabin, engineered to operate at just 37.6 decibels. Triple acoustic front glass helps minimise external noise, creating a calm driving environment.
The seats are designed for comfort, with ventilated and heated functions adding convenience in different conditions.
Both driver and front passenger benefit from power-adjustable seating, while rear passengers have access to boss seat controls.
A large panoramic sunroof enhances the sense of space, allowing natural light to fill the cabin.
Technology and convenience
The SUV is equipped with a 13.2-inch infotainment display that integrates wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making connectivity seamless.
The “Hello, Jaecoo” voice command system allows drivers to control functions hands-free, while a heads-up display projects key driving information onto the windscreen.
A 50W wireless charger with cooling vents ensures devices remain powered efficiently, complemented by a Sony eight-speaker sound system that delivers clear and immersive audio.
Additional features such as the built-in dashcam and ambient lighting further enhance the overall driving experience.
Safety and confidence
Safety is supported by a suite of advanced driver assistance systems, providing added confidence behind the wheel.
Features including the driver monitoring system, door opening warning and multiple airbags work together to enhance protection for both driver and passengers.
The vehicle also includes an integrated air purification system with N95 PM2.5 filtration, contributing to improved cabin air quality.

Beyond city driving, the J7 Petrol’s 200mm ground clearance and 600mm water wading depth underline its capability across varied terrain.
