His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, graced the BYD Brunei booth during a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration hosted by the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas, last Saturday.
His Majesty’s visit formed part of the 2026 Hari Raya Aidilfitri Exhibition, which brought together participants from government agencies, educational institutions, industry and technology sectors, as well as community groups, reflecting a shared commitment to innovation and community development.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was welcomed by Maju Motors Managing Director Chan Key Hong, who briefed the monarch on BYD’s success as a leading retailer of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in Brunei Darussalam and its growing role in advancing sustainable mobility in the country.
In a highlight of the visit, His Majesty was presented with a pesambah, a miniature model of the Yangwang U8, an off-road electric SUV that represents BYD’s latest advancements in intelligent mobility and engineering.
In line with the event’s theme, “AI Innovation: A Catalyst for Community Development”, BYD showcased its suite of AI-powered technologies designed to enhance the driving experience. These include advanced driver assistance systems, sensor-based safety features and intelligent vehicle controls that improve safety, stability and overall convenience for drivers.
BYD’s presence at the exhibition underscores its position at the forefront of Brunei’s automotive sector, particularly in the development and adoption of new energy vehicles and smart mobility solutions.
Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Chan described the invitation to participate in the event as a significant milestone for the company.
“We, Maju Motors, as a distributor of BYD, were invited by Imagine and Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah to participate in this year’s event. It is a great honour to be able to attend and personally meet His Majesty as well as the Royal Family. This is the biggest moment in our journey with BYD,” he said.
“Presenting His Majesty with a pesambah of the Yangwang U8 model was the top moment, and we hope that His Majesty will be able to see the real car in the coming months.”
He added that BYD vehicles are equipped with a wide range of advanced AI technologies seamlessly integrated into everyday driving.
“These intelligent features enhance safety, convenience and the overall driving experience. Today, BYD stands among the most technologically advanced vehicles available in the Brunei market,” he said.
