Grand Motors Sdn Bhd recently invited members of the media to get behind the wheel of the all-new Kia K4, offering a firsthand experience of its refined performance, improved comfort and modern design on Brunei roads.
Positioned as a next-generation model, the K4 marks a step forward for Kia, combining enhanced proportions, upgraded technology and a more composed driving experience for everyday use.
The Bruneian team had the opportunity to experience its performance, handling and comfort first-hand, gaining a closer look at how the model delivers across real-world driving conditions.
Driving the Kia K4
Our drive began at the High Frequency Cafe in Batu Bersurat and took us through the Gadong and Kiulap city area and surrounding roads, giving a real-world impression of what it’s like to be behind the wheel of the K4.
Sitting in the K4, the first thing you notice is its commanding presence and sense of solidity. The cabin is spacious, the seats supportive, and the elevated driving position gives a clear view of the road ahead.
On city roads, the K4 felt smooth and easy to manage. Steering was light yet precise, allowing for effortless manoeuvring through tighter streets and junctions. Its lower ride height and improved structure contributed to a more stable and composed feel.
Built on a new-generation K3 platform, the K4 delivers reduced noise, vibration and harshness, resulting in a noticeably quieter and more refined cabin.
Balanced performance on the road
The test drive highlighted the distinct characteristics of both available variants.
The GLS variant, powered by a 1.6-litre MPI petrol engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, offers a straightforward and reliable drive suited for daily commuting. Acceleration is smooth, with predictable handling that inspires confidence in traffic.
In contrast, the GT-Line variant delivers a more responsive and engaging experience. Equipped with a 1.6-litre Turbo GDI engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission, it provides stronger acceleration and improved performance.
The addition of a multi-link rear suspension enhances ride comfort and stability, particularly when navigating corners or uneven road surfaces. Even at higher speeds, the K4 remains well planted and composed.
Refinement inside the cabin
Inside, the K4 offers a spacious and comfortable cabin, thanks to its longer and wider proportions.
The interior feels open and practical, making it suitable for both short commutes and longer drives. Improved insulation further enhances the quietness of the cabin, even in busier areas.
In the GT-Line variant, the experience is elevated with a 30-inch panoramic display and a 12.3-inch digital driver display, creating a modern and intuitive cockpit.
Additional highlights include leather and cloth seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
