Forty-four students from Belait District recently received laptops and tablets along with Wish Prepaid SIM cards from the joint contribution of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company (BSP), imagine and Brunei Fertilizer Industries (BFI), providing disadvantaged students access to online learning.
According to the joint statement issued by the three companies, the initiative was a part of the “Minda Prihatin COVID-19 Support Relief: Edulink” led by local NGO Minda Youth Movement in response to the challenges faced by the community in the district, in adapting to studying from home due to the second wave pandemic.
The students were selected from six secondary schools and the Belait Sixth Form Centre (PTEB), with the majority of them sitting for O-Level and A-Level examinations this year.
In addition, the selection was also based on the student’s commitment and dedication to their education, especially when facing the challenges of the current pandemic situation.
For BSP, the collaboration with Minda Youth Movement’s EduLink programme is aligned with the company’s support towards education and youth empowerment.
In the meantime, BSP through BSPCares staff donation drive has donated 30 units of educational devices to encourage the students to continue their studies effectively online.
In addition, the collective efforts of BFI company employees through the “A Gift From The Heart” donation platform have contributed towards the supply of 14 new laptops.
On her part, CEO of Imagine, Suzannawati Hj Suharju said that this inter-company collaboration sets precedence that together they can achieve more as a community.
“We are excited for this opportunity to partner with BSP and BFI led by aspiring youth from Minda Youth Movement who have been key in ensuring that our collective efforts can be maximised for those in need,” she said.
For connectivity, the Wish Prepaid SIM card donated by imagine offers the company’s unique data roll-over service.
For the next few weeks, the SIM card will automatically receive 1GB every day before the school day starts while the remaining data from the previous day will be carried forward.
It will ensure that the identified recipients are able to take full advantage of the SIM card contribution in their learning process at home.
Moreover, members of the public who would like to assist to sustain the charity service for the identified students can do so through the donation platforms.
For imagine Wish Postpaid and Wish Prepaid customers, they can type ‘Learn [space] 1/5/10/15/20/50/100’ and send to 39998.
For non-imagine customers, they can visit imagine.com.bnunder ‘A-Dollar-ACheer’ to make a donation.
