Brunei records 423 new cases, one death

One positive case has passed away on Friday, announced the minister of health.

Speaking during a press conference, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Md Isham Hj Jaafar said that the deceased was Case 8202, a 77-year-old man who died of a lung infection after contracting COVID-19.

With this new development, the total number of COVID-19 related fatalities in Brunei still stands at 44 cases.

The minister also announced that 423 new active cases were also recorded on Monday, with the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country rising to 10,251.

Furthermore, 184 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. With that, the minister added, the total number of recovered cases in the country has increased to 7,682.

“Four new clusters have been identified; all four of these new clusters are private home clusters that involve 162 cases,” added the health minister.

Meanwhile, two of the clusters, namely the Swee Sdn Bhd Cluster and Nurisman Sdn Bhd Cluster involved private homes that house the company’s employees.

With this, the total number of active clusters in Brunei stands at 170.

It was also reported that there are 67 additional new cases to 20 existing active clusters and they are those who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.

Whereas, 194 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection, said the minister.

Currently, there are 2,501 active cases in the country and among these cases, six are in critical condition, where all of them require assistance of artificial ventilation and two cases still require the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO).

Furthermore, 29 cases that were categorised in Category 4 are now admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.

In the past 24 hours, a total of 6,203 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted from January 2020 to 431,203.

COVID-19 vaccination status

In regards to the country’s COVID-19 vaccination status, to date the total number of COVID-19 vaccinations is at 339,667 doses.

Currently, 74.9 per cent of the nation’s population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, 49.4 per cent of the population has received a complete COVID-19 vaccine injection with 224,028 individuals completed their second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Third dose of Covid-19 vaccine to healthcare frontliners

The Ministry of Health also announced the administration of a third dose of vaccine for certain groups that have been identified as front liners as an additional protective measure for those at high risk of COVID-19 infection.

“The administration of this third dose will be implemented in phases. Therefore, anyone who has received a second dose in May 2021 will be given an appointment to get a third dose.” the minister said.

“Those who have been identified will be notified via SMS to the mobile phone number registered in their respective BruHIMS system,” he added.

Revised vaccination time for Sports Complex Swab Centre

The Ministry of Health also announced revised operating hours for the Sports Complex Swab Centre at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha due to the decreased number of attendance after 8pm, especially after the commencement of “Operasi Pulih” on 4 October 2021.

The swab centre will operate from 8am to 8pm daily commencing today, 16 October 2021.

Meanwhile, 29 violations have been detected nationwide and were issued with compound fines during the operations carried out by multi-enforcement agencies on Thursday night from 8pm until 4am.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Md Isham Hj Jaafar also shared that, out of the 29 violations, 22 were violations of out-of-house restriction.
