A total of 100 students from five institutions of higher learning in Brunei have completed their essential life-skills training under the Petronas School of Life programme recently.
The Petronas School of Life which is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by Petronas Carigali Brunei Ltd (PCBL) is designed for students to acquire skill sets beyond the classroom, which includes collaboration, critical thinking, leadership and communications, over and above assigned topics.
The weekly classes commenced on 4 June 2021 at the PCBL office in Bandar Seri Begawan. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the classes had to be done virtually from August 2021.
The highlights of the programme were special sharing sessions by local and international industry experts and high-profile personalities aimed to empower the students with leadership qualities and greater self-esteem to help pave their way ahead as future leaders.
The invited speakers were the founder of Bangkok Coaching Circle and an accredited Leadership Coach, Isabel Valle, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), Soon Loo, founder of Green Brunei Foundation, YB Khairunissa Ash’ari, as well as Forbes 30 under 30 Social Entrepreneurs in 2015 and Rolex Award winner in 2010 from Philippines, Reese Fernandez.
The students were also able to engage with PCBL former Country Head, Mohamad Othman during the leadership sharing sessions.
The programme was well-received by the students and helped enable them to step out from their comfort zones and apply the knowledge gained from the sessions, including the essential life skills that may enhance their future employability and cultivate the necessary mindset to succeed in life. – Azrina Zin
