Three teams were crowned winners of the recent BIMP-EAGA Entrepreneur Competition held at The School of Energy and Engineering, IBTE Mechanical Campus.
In a statement from IBTE, the competition aimed to cultivate local economic development by inspiring and supporting local entrepreneurs.
“By stimulating entrepreneurial activity and encouraging small businesses to create strong business pitches, this was to encourage the creation of new companies and the expansion of existing businesses in Brunei Darussalam,” it added.
Out of 43 proposal submissions, nine teams were shortlisted to take part in the competition.
Each team was mentored by various entrepreneurs to prepare them for a five-minute pitch to a panel of judges comprising of Head of Entrepreneurship Innovation Centre at Ministry of Education Adna Shatriremie Hj A. Abd Rahman; Programme Director at Shell LiveWIRE Hj Abdul Yusrin Dato Seri Laila Jasa Hj Mohd Salleh; Financial Specialist at Darussalam Enterprise (DARe) Jason Tse Tow; member of the Brunei Darussalam BIMP-EAGA Business Council 2021-2024; and Young Entrepreneurs Association Brunei (YEAB) member Haji Syed Mohammad Yassin Haji Syed Anayatullah Shah.
The winning team took home a cash prize of $2000, second place received $1500, and third place won $1000 while consolation prize winner received $200.
On hand to present the awards to the winners was Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Hamzah Haji Sulaiman.
The BIMP-EAGA Entrepreneurship Competition 2022 was developed as a continuation of BIMP-EAGA Entrepreneurship Camp that was held from 6th to 8th of December 2021.
