BIACC Sdn Bhd was recently recognised as the first company in the country to achieve the ISO 22301:2019 (Business Continuity Management System, BCMS) standard through third-party certification, Bureau Veritas.
The award ceremony was aimed to promote the importance of preparing for risks amid a volatile global economic environment and inspire other organisations to go for the certification.
It was also an opportunity to showcase some of the training courses offered by BIACC’s Logistics Academy for the logistics workforce in Brunei Darussalam.
In a keynote speech, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy) Dato Seri Paduka Haji Khairuddin Haji Abdul Hamid who is also the chairman of BIACC said that the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the current economy and lifestyle, altering the way people work and function.
Ultimately, it brought significance to the role of proper Business Continuity Management (BCM), as a valuable instrument for ensuring the best possible defense against inevitable and threats that are unforeseen.
BCM aims to identify serious risks for an organisation at an early stage and subsequently identify measures to mitigate interruptions to critical business activities.
“The implementation of ISO 22301:2019 (BCMS); the international standard for Business Continuity Management, provides a practical framework for setting up and managing an effective business continuity management system,” said the deputy minister.
He added that BIACC, with assurance from Bureau Veritas Brunei, has successfully enhanced its existing business continuity management system by formally adopting this standard, enabling them to have a solid position on safeguarding its business from potential threats and disruptions, and demonstrating to stakeholders that they can quickly recover from an operational disruption in order to continue offering effective service.
With BIACCs certification, it is hoped that the adoption of ISO 2231:2019 (BCMS) will be more widespread in the senate as companies continue to strive for excellence.
BIACC was audited earlier in May 2022 by Bureau Veritas to assure compliance with the ISO standard and has achieved the ISO 22301:2019 certification on 17 June 2022.
General Manager of BIACC Ariffin Emran shared that this is also another significant milestone for BIACC and a testament to the hard work and commitment of their employee in achieving the certification.
Together, the company is building resilience into their business and the adoption of ISO 22301:2019 enables them to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from incidents such as an unprecedented crisis like the pandemic, cyberattacks, fires or minor disruptions such as power outage with the least disruption to business while maintaining BIACC’s position as an important air cargo ground handler in the region.
Also present at the ceremony were BIACC Board members and staff as well as invited guests comprising Darussalam Assets, Darussalam Assets Group of Companies (government-linked companies), Bureau Veritas (Certification Body), government officials, airline CEOs, freight forwarding and courier companies and other stakeholders.
