Malaysia targets 9.2 million tourist arrivals this year

Malaysia is targeting 9.2 million tourist arrivals this year with RM26.8 billion in receipts, according to statistics provided by Tourism Malaysia.

In 2019, before the pandemic suspended travel plans, Malaysia received 1,216,123 arrivals from Brunei, followed by 136,020 visitors in 2020 and 773 in 2021.

These figures were shared during the recent Sabre Brunei Travel Fair 2022 at One City Shopping Centre.

Present to officiate Tourism Malaysia’s booth was the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei, Dato’ Raja Reza Raja Zaib Shah.

Several vendors joined Tourism Malaysia for the travel fair including Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), Tiara Labuan Hotel, Melaka River Cruise, Ming Garden Hotel & Residences and the Malaysia Aviation Group.

State tourism boards from Sabah and Sarawak were also present to promote Sabah’s community tourism initiatives for a more authentic experience and the upcoming Miri Country Music Festival slated to take place from 25 to 26 November at the Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club in Miri, Sarawak.

Tourism Malaysia participated and also collaborated with local travel agencies such as Darussalam Holdings Sendirian Berhad, Freme Travel Services Sdn Bhd, Pan Bright Travel Services, Straits Central Agencies (B) Sdn Bhd and Southern Cross Travel with the aim to increase the number of arrivals to the island while promoting Malaysia as the choice for a holiday destination.

“The collaboration and travel fair was timely as international border restrictions have been lifted,” read a statement.

The first 300 customers who purchased any Holiday Packages or air tickets to any destination in Malaysia were offered a BND10.00 rebate.

Visitors to the booth were also entertained with a hand-painted tiffin decorating demonstration by Req Craft and Deco, flown all the way from UNESCO World Heritage City, Melaka.
