His Majesty attends audience with Cambodia King, meets Bruneian youths

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam recently attended a royal audience with His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, which was held at the Royal Palace, Phnom Penh.

The monarch was also joined by other ASEAN Heads of State and Government during the audience.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam expressed his appreciation to His Majesty the King of Cambodia and the people of Cambodia for the warm welcome and hospitality accorded to him and the Brunei Delegation whilst in Phnom Penh.

ASEAN Heads of State and Government are in Phnom Penh to attend the 40th
and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits which will be preceded by the Opening Ceremony.

The ASEAN Leaders will then discuss on agendas and priorities under the three ASEAN Community pillars at the Plenary Session and the Retreat Session as well as the strengthening of ASEAN’s cooperation with its Dialogue partners during related summits.

Cambodia as ASEAN Chair for the year 2022, is hosting the ASEAN Summit for the third time after the country hosted the Summits in 2002 and 2012.

Sultan attends session with ASEAN youths

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei also attended the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth, which was held at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.

During the session, ASEAN Leaders and representatives of ASEAN Youth, among other things, discussed the role of the youth as future leaders in enhancing sustainable development in the region.

During the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth, Brunei Darussalam was represented by Mohammad Abdul Wafi Haji Sofian, Head of Operations and Head of Secretariat of the COVID-19 Youth Volunteers and Nur Izzah Amalia Malik Iskandar, Law and Syariah student at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA).

The session is a platform for ASEAN Leaders to convey their expectations of the youth as well as for the youth to share their efforts and contributions towards the development of the region.

Prior to departure, His Majesty also mingled with the Bruneian representatives.
