Brunei Darussalam recently participated in the prestigious international ICT competition, the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2022, held in Islamabad, Pakistan from 7 to 11 December 2022.
The sultanate was represented by four teams comprising winners, runners-up, and participants of the previous Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA) 2022.
Ministry of Health with their product ‘BruHealth’ and Rumine Corporation with ‘TechSim’.
Meanwhile, Sekolah Menengah Berakas and Sekolah Ugama Arab Menengah Perempuan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha (SUAMRIPAHS) with their products ‘MidoriSAWI’ and ‘SignSpeak’ respectively, took part virtually from Brunei.
The Bruneian delegation to APICTA 2022 was led by Hajah Ismawati Haji Ismail, Senior Manager, Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), as Brunei Darussalam’s Executive Committee (ExCo) member in APICTA and judge in this year’s APICTA competition.
Also joining as a judge was Pengiran Sarimah Pengiran Haji Abdul Latiff, Chair of InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB), who is also Brunei Darussalam’s ExCo member.
The delegation also includes Dr Yong Chee Tuan of Yi Ecomodern Solutions as APICTA Advisory Judge and three other judges, namely Dr Sophiana Chua Abdullah of A Vision A Day Company, Pengiran Khairi Pengiran Haji Metussin of Mindtrex Academy and Reza Faizal Mohd Nor of Folec Communications.
Brunei Darussalam’s participation in the APICTA Awards is a continuous initiative by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, AITI and IFB, and aims to stimulate innovation and creativity in ICT, as well as develop the nation’s ICT sector by encouraging individuals, students and businesses to compete at the international level.
Since 2008, Brunei has achieved two winning awards and twenty-seven merit awards in APICTA.
