Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) recently showed its support at the World Cancer Day Weekend by showcasing the BIBD Wellness Programme at the event.
World Cancer Day is an annual event that is celebrated every 4 February. In conjunction with the global awareness event, the Brunei Cancer Centre (TBC) through the Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) organised the World Cancer Day Weekend celebrations on 5 February 2023 at the Taman Haji Sir Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital.
The main objective of the event is to bring people together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic by raising awareness and educating the public on the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of cancer in Brunei Darussalam.

BIBD set up an exhibition booth at the event during which BIBD Wellness Ambassadors carried out free basic health checkups for the public to support the Ministry of Health and PJSC in raising awareness and a better understanding of health and well-being as well as the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to improve the overall quality of life.
The BIBD Wellness Ambassadors consist of members of the BIBD ‘Corporate Platoon’ which was set up in August last year as a support group to the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BRC) and will be involved in offering humanitarian assistance and volunteering, as well as health and wellness activities in the nation.
The BIBD ‘Corporate Platoon’ also acts as an auxiliary agent or support to BRC in executing missions or tasks on Basic First Aid and Life Saving.

Members of the platoon, which consists of 30 certified members and certified first aiders made up of the bank’s employees from all levels, have undergone and completed intensive training recognised by the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) which is the Occupational First Aid Certification Training (OFAC) and a first-of-its-kind Wellness Training Programme in Brunei that is certified by the Ministry of Health.
BIBD’s participation and support at the event reflect the bank’s strong commitment and readiness to serve the country in various aspects including initiatives that look after the health and wellness of the people, in line with BIBD’s foundational values of Maqasid Shariah.
This initiative is also aligned with and directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals specifically SDG 3 (Ensuring Healthy Lives and Promoting Wellbeing For All At All Ages).

Past participants of the BIBD Wellness Program have also greatly benefited from this initiative as they learned to understand and detect any underlying health conditions that might have gone unnoticed in the past.
Additionally, members of the BIBD Wellness Ambassadors provided a briefing on BIBD’s Psychological First Aid (PFA) initiative which ultimately aims to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and psychological well-being at the workplace.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II who is also Chairman of the BIBD Group Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah and Minister of Health Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Md Isham Hj Jaafar visited the exhibition booth.
Also present at the event were BIBD Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Junaidi Haji Masri and other members of the senior management team of BIBD.
