The European Union-Brunei Darussalam Partnership Facility will be organising a two-day seminar focusing on gender equality, gender mainstreaming and encouraging greater participation of women in all aspects of society.
The Policy Outreach and Exchange seminar on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment is held in conjunction with International Women’s Day and begins on 1 March at the Radisson Hotel in the capital.
The event is also part of the official working visit of the Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia and Ambassador-Designate to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Vincent Piket, who will be opening the seminar.
“Promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment is a shared task. I hope this seminar will produce some hands-on ideas for cooperation between Brunei and the EU in this area,” said Ambassador-Designate Piket.
Throughout his visit, His Excellency will be meeting with government officials, business leaders, academics, and civil society organisations and attending events organised through a new EU project that promotes bilateral partnership and cooperation: the European Union-Brunei Darussalam Partnership Facility.
The European Union-Brunei Darussalam Partnership Facility aims to promote two-way exchanges and know-how transfer between Bruneian and EU stakeholders from the government, private sector, and civil society.
The Facility will cover policy areas of shared interest including economic cooperation, higher education, research, environment, climate as well as sustainable growth.
His Excellency will be joined by HE Bernard Regnauld-Fabre, Ambassador of France to Brunei Darussalam, and HE Gerda Winkler, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Brunei Darussalam during the seminar.
The event will also feature keynote speeches from Ambassador-Designate Piket and Brunei’s Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
Additionally, discussions by local and EU senior officials will take place to foster an exchange of knowledge and ideas to promote the advancement of women and learn from diverse perspectives.
A keynote lecture will also take place at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) on The European Union as a Global Actor in the Indo-Pacific.
