Alongside the critically acclaimed Defender 90 and Defender 110, the Defender 130 adds another dimension to the all-conquering family of all-terrain vehicles, with adventuring opportunities for up to eight adults across three rows of full-size seating
The sole distributor of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) recently treated invited guests and members of the media to an exclusive first look at the all-new Defender 130 in Sedona Red at the Land Rover Showroom.
A host of exterior and interior design enhancements and technologies distinguish New Defender 130, uniquely balancing comfort with customary Defender durability and capability.
“The Defender is a vehicle loved by many. It is distinctive, capable and durable, with a rich history that can be traced to the start of Land Rover,” said General Manager of Indera Motors, Alfred Yong in his welcoming remarks.
“The Defender 130 brings a new dimension of capability to our most durable and rugged family of vehicles. Its spacious interior welcomes and transports up to eight people in supreme comfort, enabling unparalleled adventuring opportunities for families, with unique design signatures to create a distinct New Defender experience,” he added.
An emotionally engaging exterior
Commanding a strong presence on the road with a boxy proportion and a menacing presence, the Defender remains one of the world’s most recognisable four-wheel-drive vehicles.
Like the Defender 90 and 110, the new 130 body design borrows its name from the original Defender family, inspired by the longest model in the line-up.
The Defender family effortlessly combines functional engineering with an emotionally engaging design – the toughest vehicle ever made.
The latest Defender 130 still retains its classic iconic look with its boxy shape and the characterful round headlights. However, the 130 ditches the Alpine windows on the roof edge that the Defender 90 and 110 and replaces it with a panoramic sunroof.
Measuring in at an impressive 5,358mm, the Defender 130 allows customers to effortlessly transport up to eight people across any terrain and is the ultimate demonstration of Defender’s breadth of talents.
Interior: Spacious and supreme comfort
On the inside, the spacious eight-seater is a great place to be.
The Defender 130 is definitely comfortable for long road trips with the whole family. Passengers are treated to a comfortable and modern-looking cabin with plenty of leg space.
The eight-seater has major tech inside its luxurious cabin. It is equipped with the all-new 11.4-inch Privi Pro infotainment system, allowing enhanced control over the vehicle’s core functions via a crisp and intuitive display.
Moreover, the luxury SUV’s interior air quality is also taken to the next level with the new-gen Cabin Air Purification Pro with PM2.5 filtration and nano X technology.
For enhanced comfort and luxury the eight-seater also features the Meridian sound system.
In addition, the 130 provides a spacious and practical load area, with up to 389 litres of cargo volume even with the rearmost seats in place.
In addition, when the seats are not in use, they stow to create a large loading area, giving customers the ultimate choice in configuring the interior arrangement that best suits their needs. They are split in 40:20:40 configuration for added convenience.
Other notable optional features, the SUV boasts a wireless charging pad for your phone, premium cabin lighting to suit your mood and a front centre console refrigerator compartment, among others.
Power and Safety
The Defender 130 is available with a powerful and efficient choice of electrified powertrains, including the P300 and P400 mild-hybrid Ingenium six-cylinder petrol, and the D250 and D300 Ingenium six-cylinder diesel.
Mild-Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology underpins Land Rover’s six-cylinder Ingenium powertrains, providing seamless responses as well as enhanced fuel economy.
Capable of great things, the Defender is engineered for both off-road and on-road. The rugged Defender 130 complements luxury accommodations with agile handling and a powerful engine.
Every Defender 130 is fitted with Land Rover’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system and eight-speed ZF automatic transmission as standard. The AWD technology efficiently and effectively manages the powertrain and power distribution between the front and rear axles, optimising on-road efficiency and all-terrain capability as necessary.
In terms of safety, as you would expect from the British brand, Land Rover Defender has gone up a notch with the latest safety and state-of-the-art technology, which features their signature 3D surround cameras which includes ClearSight Ground View, 360-degree Parking Aid, Wade Sensing, Clear Sight Rear View Mirror and Head-up Display.
Other safety and driving aids feature Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Assist, Clear Exit Monitor, Cruise Control and Speed Limiter, Driver Condition Monitor, Lane Keep Assist and many more.
The New Defender 130 is available in SE, HSE, X-Dynamic and X specifications, and is available for viewing and customisation at the Land Rover Showroom in Beribi until 11 March 2023.
