BIBD to award youth champions of sustainability

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) has announced the launch of the BIBD Sustainability Leaders Awards to recognise and celebrate the efforts of youth in Brunei towards building a more sustainable future.

As the first of its kind in the country, the BIBD Sustainability Awards seeks to empower and inspire the next generation to take bold steps towards addressing environmental, social, and economic challenges, forging a path towards a more sustainable and resilient society.

The announcement of the award was made at the closing ceremony of the SDG Youth Dialogue: “Future Sustainability Leaders” by BIBD Managing Director and CEO, Junaidi bin Haji Masri.

“In recent years, we have witnessed an increasing focus on sustainability, driven by the urgent need to protect our planet for future generations. The youth of today are at the forefront of this movement, displaying immense passion, dedication, and innovative ideas in their pursuit of a more sustainable world,” he said.

The CEO added that at BIBD, they believe in nurturing and empowering the next generation as they understand the critical role they play in shaping the future, especially towards advancing the progress of Wawasan 2035 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).

He went on to say that the BIBD Sustainability Leaders Award will serve as a platform to acknowledge and reward outstanding youth champions who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to sustainable practices and initiatives that can help steer the nation’s progress toward achieving the goals.

The award will be broken into three categories.

The Clusters category will see BIBD award $3,000 to champions of each cluster namely the Education Cluster, Health Cluster, Environment Cluster, and Jobs Cluster.

In the second category, two individual champions, BIBD Sustainability Leaders Award; Most Inspiring Male Leader, and Most Inspiring Female Leader will each be rewarded with a BIBD Aspirasi Account (Certificate of Deposit) worth $1,000.

The final category is the Best Overall Sustainability Project which will see BIBD award $3,000 to the winners.

Additionally, this award will recognise those who are actively working towards a more sustainable and inclusive world, whether it is in the area of implementing eco-friendly projects, promoting renewable energy, educating the public and raising awareness on sustainability, or advocating for social justice.

The implementation of this award is part of BIBD’s commitment of B$2 billion towards sustainability funding under the BIBD Sustainability Framework and continued efforts towards achieving the UNSDGs.

Furthermore, BIBD recently supported the SDG Youth Dialogue which took place at the Prime Minister’s Office from 15 May until 17 May 2023.
