A total of 1,470 kilogrammes of litter were collected during a beach cleaning campaign held in Muara Beach recently.
Some 200 individuals took part in the clean-up co-organised by a local volunteer group CHANGE & IMPACT and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea led by Ambassador Kim Soung-eun.
In his welcoming remarks, the ambassador stressed the importance of environmental protection and the need for cooperative efforts for sustainable development.
He also said that the Republic of Korea has led various environment protection initiatives with AMS and it plans to work closely with the ASEAN Climate Change Centre, which will soon be established in Bandar Seri Begawan.
Ensuring the safety and efficiency of the cleanup, all participants were equipped with the necessary cleaning gear, including gloves and garbage bags.
The efforts of these volunteers resulted in the retrieval of a large assortment of litter, such as plastics, tins, scraps, bottles, slippers, and various other forms of refuse.
