His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman, on Thursday attended a Morning Excursion in conjunction with the 9th Young Leaders’ Programme, which included a visit to the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge, a morning walk, and a breakfast at The Abode Resort and Spa, Kampung Perdayan, Temburong District.
The Morning Excursion began with His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, and Her Royal Highness together with His Excellency Lawrence Wong, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of the Republic of Singapore and spouse as well as the Singapore delegation to take a closer observation of the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge.
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Her Royal Highness first arrived at the Twin Tower Cable Stayed Bridge, Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness were greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (R) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II; and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, Minister of Development.
Present were His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
Also present were Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim; Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman; Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah; and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Faathimah Az-Zahraa’ Raihaanul Bolkiah.
The Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge is one of the important landmarks in Brunei Darussalam and also the longest bridge in Southeast Asia with a distance of 26.3 kilometres.
The bridge crosses part of Brunei Bay and connects the Brunei-Muara District with the Temburong District. It is one of Brunei Darussalam’s efforts to enhance ASEAN connectivity, and further contribute towards enhancing trade and investment, development and tourism in Brunei Darussalam, especially in the Temburong District. It was opened to the public on 17 March 2020.
After viewing the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri, together with the Singapore delegation, proceeded to The Abode Resort and Spa in Kampung Perdayan, Temburong District.
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Her Royal Highness together with His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of the Republic of Singapore, and spouse, along with the Singaporean delegation were greeted upon arrival at the entrance of the resort by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Minister of Home Affairs; Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Sufian Bin Haji Sabtu, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd
Yunos, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; and a member of the Legislative Council.
The delegations from Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore then took a leisurely walk at the Abode Resort and Spa and witnessed cultural performances and silat demonstrations to welcome the arrival of the delegation.
Following the Morning Recreational Event, His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness
Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak İsteri, along with His Excellency and Spouse and delegations from both countries proceeded to attend breakfast.
His Royal Royal Highness and His Excellency also signed a special parchment to commemorate the 9th Young Leaders’ Programme.
The Young Leaders’ Programme is an annual exchange of visits between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore in which Brunei is the host country for this year. The programme also reflects the strong and close bilateral relationship between the two countries which includes working together in the fields of defence, finance, trade and investment as well as education and exploring new areas of mutual interest such as food security, renewable energy, and climate change.
During the 9th Young Leaders’ Programme, the Brunei Darussalam and Singapore delegation witnessed the commissioning of Patrol Vessel, KDB Al-Faruq; and attended a special lecture by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of the Republic of Singapore.
The Singapore delegation also visited Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, and participated in a recreational activity.
