Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha recently held a bilateral meeting with the Republic of Korea’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) His Excellency Sangwoo Park.
Held on the sidelines of the World Smart City Expo 2024 in Seoul, the meeting focused on exchanging views and sharing best practices, experiences, and initiatives in advancing smart transportation management systems.
Key areas included policy frameworks, legislation, capacity building, information sharing, and collaborative strategies aimed at enhancing transportation efficiency and sustainability.
Furthermore, the session explored collaborative opportunities between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Korea to address public transport challenges in Brunei. Based on the technologies and solutions showcased by companies at the World Smart City Expo (WSCE) 2024, there are viable solutions that could be adapted and considered for Brunei Darussalam’s Smart Transport System project.
While in the republic, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary visited the World Smart City Expo (WSCE) 2024 at KINTEX 1 in Goyang, the Goyang Smart Safety Center, and the Seoul Transport Operation and Information Service (TOPIS) facility in Seoul.
These visits provided valuable insights into smart transportation solutions, focusing on policy frameworks, legislation, and technology-driven strategies for smarter, more sustainable urban mobility systems.
Also present at the meeting were Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) Ir Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Korea Pengiran Hajah Nooriyah Pengiran Lela Wijaya Pengiran Haji Yussof alongside senior officials from MTIC and the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Seoul.
Prior to this, Ir Haji Mohammad Nazri Haji Mohammad Yusof attended the 2nd Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) Meeting aimed to advance discussions under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in the Field of Smart City Development between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Korea.
Attended by the Republic of Korea’s Deputy Minister for Territorial and Urban Policy Dr Lee Sangjoo, the discussions focused on expanding cooperation in smart city initiatives, building on previously agreed JCC initiatives.
In recognition of the strong partnership between the two nations, Brunei Darussalam was presented with a token of appreciation by the Republic of Korea. This gesture underscores the enduring cooperation and mutual commitment to fostering growth and development in smart cities.
