Calling all cycling enthusiasts and fans of the prestigious cycling race, Le Tour de Langkawi!
This year, the PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi 2024 is set to showcase a spectacular and challenging route, spanning 1,190 kilometers across some of Malaysia’s breathtaking landscapes.
The 28th edition tour started from the island of Langkawi on 29 September (Sunday) and to conclude in Bintulu on 6 October (Sunday), making it a first in the race’s history with a cross-sea route from Peninsular Malaysia to the Bornean Island.

With the theme ‘Beat the Heat’, the ten-day event will see riders lapsing through 11 states in eight stages – Langkawi Round Island; Arau – Butterworth; Taiping – Cameron Highlands; Kuala Kubu Bharu – Bentong; Kuala Lumpur – Melaka; Batu Pahat – Kulai; Miri – Bintulu; and Bintulu Loop.
PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi 2024 is highly anticipated for its expanded and more challenging route designed for every type of rider, from sprinters and climbers to all-rounders. It will feature top-tier cycling teams from across the globe, making it a battleground for some of the world’s best cyclists.


The tour will feature some 22 teams from Astana Qazaqstan, Burgos BH, Tudor Pro Cycling, Terengganu Cycling, Malaysia Pro Cycling, Nusantara Pro Cycling and Li Ning Star Cycling, among others.
Each team comprises of six cyclists from around the world namely, Kazakhstan, Spain, Great Britain, Germany, Australia, Italy, Netherlands, France, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and more.
Director General of Tourism Malaysia Manoharan Periasamy noted that since its inception in 1996, Le Tour de Langkawi has grown in prominence, attracting top international teams and riders, and earning a notable place on the UCI Asia Tour calendar.


Le Tour de Langkawi has a significant role in promoting and showcasing Malaysia’s natural beauty, cultural diversity, and modern infrastructure, he said.
“Supported by Tourism Malaysia, the race has become a key event, drawing visitors from around the globe and highlighting Malaysia as a premier destination for sports tourism. The race routes wind through lush rainforests, along pristine coastlines, and past historical landmarks, providing a unique backdrop that enhances the event’s appeal, serving as an excellent platform to display Malaysia’s rich cultural tapestry,” said Manoharan.


Beyond the competition, the race celebrates Malaysia’s cultural and natural beauty, with each stage offering a chance to explore the country’s heritage through vibrant local festivities, food, and community events along the way.
Two stages in Sarawak – Miri and Bintulu
The PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi 2024 will debut Miri and Bintulu for two finishing stages on 5 and 6 October.
Riders will embark on a 200-kilometre route at Stage 7 from Miri to Bintulu before finishing at Stage 8 in the Bintulu Loop.
The thrilling Miri-Bintulu race route not only will gather local spectators in Sarawak but also cycling fans from Brunei for the weekend.

Be sure to witness the kick-off at Miri Waterfront at 11am on 5 October or catch them passing through Jalan Permaisuri, Jalan Miri-Pujut, Bintulu-Miri highway and onwards.
If you happen to be in Bintulu on 6 October, the cyclists will start at 12noon on a loop from Lasar Kenyalang to Jalan Abang Galau, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Pantai Tanjung Batu and all the way to Jalan Kampung Baru before returning to the starting point.

This is a perfect opportunity to witness top international cyclists in action as they push their limits in the final stages of the race.
