Borneo Jazz Festival returns with ‘Jazzy Miri’ from 29 November to 1 December 2024

One of Southeast Asia’s longest-running international jazz festivals – Borneo Jazz Festival (BJF) – is back once again after a long hiatus, bringing musicians of diverse cultural backgrounds together to celebrate jazz music and empower the local community.

Themed “Jazzy Miri”, the Borneo Jazz Festival will be held from 29 November 2024 to 1 December 2024 to reach out to the greater jazz-loving community worldwide.

The festival will take place at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club, Miri, Sarawak. Organised by the Miri City Council and; management and musical content curated by Deckworks Events & Entertainment, Sarawak’s local elite event management firm, music lovers can expect a spectacular mix of jazz, reggae, pop, tribal vibes and world beats during the 18th edition of the Borneo Jazz Festival.

Watch out for an eclectic mix of jazz, reggae and pop musicians, and a renowned local emcee from Malaysia and more lighting up the Borneo Jazz stage to celebrate cultural diversity, tradition and innovation.

In his speech at the event announcement, Sarawak’s Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said, “With the theme “Jazzy Miri”, this year’s Borneo Jazz is about rejuvenating the jazz scene, especially after the recent pandemic while being surrounded by the wonders of nature that are in abundance in Miri, the gateway to Northern Sarawak.”

Mayor of Miri City Yang Berhormat Adam Yii Siew Sang said, “We are pleased to once again bring music lovers in Malaysia and around the world physically back to the Borneo Jazz Festival in Miri, the northern gateway of Sarawak.”

“In previous years, the music festival reached a broader audience given the virtual format, and we hope to continue this traction once again this year by returning to the live format. Our goal is to provide our Sarawakian artists with an even bigger platform for their artistry to be recognised around the world.”
