Sabah Tourism Golf Challenge calls for Brunei golfers’ participation

Get your golf clubs and gear ready for an upcoming golf tournament – Sabah Tourism Golf Challenge.

Hosted by Sabah’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS), the competition will take place from 5 to 7 December 2024 at three golf courses: Sutera Harbour Marina Golf & Country Club, Dalit Bay Golf & Country Club, and Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai.

Participants will be vying for a pool prize of $30,000 including a special hole-in-one and attractive lucky draw prizes such as RM10,000 cash, six golf sets, Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4, Garmin Approach S70, Apple Watch Series 9 and Bushnell Range Finder, among others.

Registration for the Sabah Tourism Golf Challenge is now open and interested players can submit participation as individuals or a group at www.xmultisport.com with a fee starting from $650/pax or $2,600/team

In a presentation session held at Tourism Malaysia Brunei Darussalam office, General Manager of X Multisport Event Ahmad Syuaib Nasir said that the prestigious three-day event aimed to gather some 360 golfers from across the region.

“As of today, we have registered participants from South Korea, China, Singapore and the Philippines and we are expecting more to showcase the widespread appeal and excitement surrounding this event,” he said.

He further said that the tournament will also feature appearances of renowned golf celebrities and influencers from South Korea, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia, adding a touch of glamour and excitement.

The competition promotes golf as a sport and highlights Sabah as the premier sports tourism destination.

On her part, Director of Tourism Malaysia Brunei Darussalam Hazrina Azman said that Malaysia recorded 785,000 arrivals from Brunei as of August 2024 which numbers are also contributed by Bruneian golfers who travel to Malaysia for the sport.

“Malaysia has a total of 148 golf courses within Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. Of which, 77 golf courses have their unique characteristics and environment that can cater for both professionals and enthusiastic amateurs,” she said.

She added: “We are happy to introduce our Malaysia Golf e-Directory for your future golf plans to Malaysia.”

The session was attended by Brunei Darussalam Golf Association (BDGA) Honorary Secretary Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Hamid Haji Jafar, Brunei Darussalam Association of Senior Golfers (BDASG) Deputy President Haji Muhammad Lutfi Haji Muhammad Hanif, BDASG Honorary Secretary Brigadier General (R) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Jofri Haji Abdullah and Brunei Ladies Golf Association (BLGA) Hajah Sarinah Haji Masri along with members of golf clubs and travel agents.
