International School Brunei (ISB) will be hosting the 20th ISB Borneo Global Issues Conference (ISB BGIC) with Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and Ministry of Education (MOE) from 25 until 27 October.
The theme of this year’s ISB BGIC is Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education – How can we ensure that inclusive and equitable education supports sustainable development?
The annual conference, to be held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, will feature keynote speakers; an award-winning motivational and public speaker Hon. Dr Stuart Lawrence and Linda Cruse, the founder of Race4Good.

Hon. Dr Stuart Lawrence is a teacher, orator, author and consultant, all for a single purpose: to give young people and adults alike the mindset and skills to achieve their potential, irrespective of background, and in turn become the voices that change society.
Whereas, Linda Cruse is a humanitarian aid worker, author, and speaker committed to aiding disaster-affected communities globally. She is renowned for her inventive disaster relief methods empowering locals for sustainable rebuilding and prioritising empowering locals for sustainable rebuilding.

Some 250 delegates will discuss and debate topics based on the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The conference will also be attended by twenty-three government and private schools from Brunei and overseas.
Executive Principal and CEO at ISB Dominic Morley in his remarks said that ISB believes in investing in human capital and quality education to improve productivity, prosperity and quality of life for all members of our local and global community.

“Hence, we have been hosting ISB BGIC on a large scale since its inception two decades ago, with the main aim of benefiting our youth, our society and our communities,” he said.
Morley added: “I am, therefore, very pleased that this year’s conference theme highlights the importance of quality education to improve the global economy, ensure sustainable development and empower our youth to support the SDGs and protect our planet’s future.
Delegates will debate and decide on resolutions relating to quality education, with topics such as addressing barriers to quality education, fair and equal access to education, environmental awareness and green practices, and integrating digital literacy into school curriculums, among others.

Participants at the annual student-led Model United Nations-style conference will represent countries to address current real-world issues, developing their understanding of global citizenship and critical skills in research, public speaking, and negotiation.
This year’s ISB BGIC marks a key milestone, as it has the added significance of being the 20th edition of the conference and is also taking place in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of ISB, marking six decades of inclusive academic excellence.

The event is also supported by Green Brunei and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Also present at the press conference at ISB’s Campus were Head of Strategic Relationship Management at BIBD Dk Rodzi Pg Abdul Rahman, HSE Manager at Brunei LNG Amir Hamzah POKPSDP Hj Abdul Rahman, ISB BGIC Secretaries-General Francisca Vega and Zara Jeffri, with fellow ISB BGIC Secretary- General Emilka Lim as emcee.
