Royal Brunei Airlines celebrates 50 years of service with mass prayers

Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) recently held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony, Sembahyang Berjemaah dan Doa Kesyukuran at Masjid Suri Seri Begawan Raja Pengiran Anak Damit, Kampong Manggis Madang in commemoration of its 50th anniversary.

RB expressed its heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, for His Majesty’s enduring support, as well as to His Majesty’s Government and the RB Board of Directors for their invaluable guidance in the airline’s journey and future direction.

The 50th anniversary marks a proud chapter in RB’s commitment to delivering world-class service grounded in values of warmth, sincerity, and excellence.

The event featured Khatam Al-Quran recitations by 63 RB staff, including retirees, congregational prayers, and a Doa Kesyukuran (prayer of gratitude), symbolising RB’s journey and aspirations aligned with Brunei’s Wawasan 2035 vision.

As Brunei’s national carrier, RB has had the privilege of connecting Brunei with the world, sharing the nation’s rich heritage and the renowned warmth of Bruneian hospitality. For five decades, RB has remained steadfast in enhancing the travel experience for every passenger, inspired by the values of ikhlas (sincerity) and respect. This occasion is a heartfelt tribute to its passengers, dedicated staff, and stakeholders who have supported RB throughout its journey.

Looking forward, RB is inspired by the Wawasan 2035 vision of a progressive and resilient Brunei. The airline remains committed to elevating its services and contributing to the nation’s growth and international presence.

As part of its ongoing commitment to expanding connectivity within the region, on its 50th Anniversary, RB is pleased to announce the relaunch of flights to Balikpapan, Indonesia, starting 19 February 2025. Operating twice weekly on the Airbus A320neo.

This route will strengthen cultural and economic ties between Brunei and the East Kalimantan region, providing more travel opportunities for leisure and business travellers. This new service will also provide a seamless connection to the new Indonesian capital city, Nusantara Capital City in Kalimantan.

Chief Executive Officer of RB Captain Sabirin Bin Haji Abd Hamid in his remarks said that reaching the milestone is a moment of immense pride for all RB.

“Our 50th anniversary is not just a celebration of RB but of Brunei, our people, and a shared vision for the future. Reflecting on our journey, we are deeply grateful to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, to our passengers, and the remarkable Team RB, who embody the spirit of ‘ikhlas’ in all that they do. We look forward to many more years of connecting Brunei to the world—including our new route to Balikpapan, which reflects our commitment to our growth and strengthening ties within our region and beyond,” he said.

Attending the event was RB’s Chairman, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Muhammad Juanda Haji Abdul Rashid, members of RB’s Board of Directors, management and staff, valued stakeholders as well as guests from the wider community.
