DST introduces eZakat platform

Datastream Digital (DST) has introduced a new online platform that makes it easier for Muslims in Brunei Darussalam to fulfill their obligation to pay Zakat Harta.

The launching ceremony of the eZakat Harta platform was held at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, in his capacity as President of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB), launched the eZakat Harta Wang Simpanan.

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, in his capacity as Vice President of MUIB, was also present.

The ceremony began with a welcoming address by DST’s Chief Executive Officer, Radin Sufri Radin Basuni, emphasizing the eZakat platform as a key step in transforming Zakat management.

Leveraging DST’s digital expertise, eZakat simplifies, accelerates, and ensures transparency, enhancing collection efficiency and delivering aid effectively.

This initiative supports financial inclusion, economic empowerment, and community self-reliance. Collaboration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and JUZWAB also opens opportunities to expand services like Zakat Pendapatan and Zakat Perniagaan, broadening Zakat’s impact on economic well-being and national development.

The launching ceremony also featured a video showing the procedure using eZakat and a video on the obligation to make zakat payment and the benefits of paying zakat.

The ceremony concluded with a visit to the exhibition on eZakat platform by DST and Zakat clinic by the Zakat, Wakaf and Baitulmal Management Department.

The Brunei Islamic Religious Council, during its fifth meeting of the year 1445H/2024M held on Monday, 03 Zulhijjah 1445 (10 June 2024), reviewed Paper No. 11/2024 regarding the implementation of the online Zakat Harta payment service by DST. The council approved its implementation under the prescribed conditions and regulations.

The eZakat Harta platform is part of the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ initiative in collaboration with DST to promote public awareness of e-services, in line with the strategic goals of the Digital Economy Master Plan 2025.

The eZakat service is available to all Muslims in Brunei Darussalam without the need for prior registration. Users simply need to fill in the required details through the service portal at ezakat.dst.com.bn.

Payments can be made anytime and anywhere using their Easi, Mobi, or any debit cards. Payers are advised to ensure sufficient balance in their chosen payment method.

Key Features of eZakat Harta:

● User-Friendly interface: Provides guidance for first-time users through comprehensive FAQs and the MUIB e-book for detailed information.
● Automated Calculations: Accurate and easy-to-use Zakat calculation tools.
● Year Format: Users can select either Hijrah or Masihi.
● Secure and convenient payments: Users can make payments conveniently through DST’s product services, such as Easi and Mobi. Additionally, payments can be made using Debit Cards for greater flexibility.
● Niat: Users will recite the intention (niat) before making their Zakat payment, ensuring consent and sincerity in fulfilling the obligation.
● Digital Receipts: This feature allows users to easily track their payments for Zakat Harta Wang Simpanan, providing secure and accessible records for reference.
