Toyota Vios Hybrid: A compact sedan with advanced hybrid technology and impressive fuel efficiency

The all-new Toyota Vios Hybrid brings together modern design, advanced hybrid technology, impressive fuel efficiency and everyday practicality, making it a strong addition to Brunei’s compact sedan segment.

Positioned as an accessible entry into electrified driving, the Vios Hybrid combines the familiarity of a trusted compact sedan with the innovation of a self-charging hybrid system, delivering a smooth and efficient driving experience without requiring any change in driving habits.

Built for urban life, the Vios Hybrid retains its reputation as a reliable compact sedan while introducing a more efficient powertrain and subtle design refinements that reflect Toyota’s gradual shift towards electrification.

Effortless Hybrid Efficiency for Everyday Driving

At the heart of the Vios Hybrid is a 1.5-litre self-charging hybrid system that automatically switches between petrol and electric power depending on driving conditions.

Designed specifically for stop-start city traffic, the system optimises fuel use by relying more on electric assistance at low speeds, helping to smooth out acceleration while reducing fuel consumption.

The result is a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.0 km/litre, with a potential driving range of up to 972 kilometres on a full tank. Importantly, there is no need for external charging, the system regenerates energy while driving, braking, and coasting.

This makes the Vios Hybrid especially suited for daily commuting, offering efficiency without complexity.

Refined Exterior with Subtle Hybrid Identity

The Vios Hybrid maintains its compact and familiar silhouette but introduces subtle styling updates that give it a fresher and more modern appearance.

Slimmer LED headlamps, a redesigned front bumper, and cleaner body lines enhance its road presence without straying from its understated character.

A HEV-exclusive grille adds a sportier touch to the front fascia, while dark chrome accents along the sides and rear highlight its hybrid identity in a restrained way. The 16-inch alloy wheels are designed with efficiency in mind, balancing aerodynamics with everyday durability.

The overall design remains intentionally conservative, ensuring the Vios continues to look relevant for years to come rather than chasing aggressive styling trends.

The 460-litre boot offers generous storage for groceries, luggage, or daily essentials, while smartly placed compartments inside the cabin improve practicality for both driver and passengers.

Despite its compact footprint, the Vios Hybrid is designed to comfortably support daily urban use with minimal compromise.

Engineered to offer high-quality performance and safety

The Vios Hybrid comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, a suite of advanced driver assistance features designed to support safer driving without being intrusive.

Drivers can also choose between ECO, Normal, and PWR drive modes, allowing them to adjust performance depending on traffic conditions or driving preference.

Behind the wheel of the Vios Hybrid

As for performance, the all-new Vios Hybrid offers a more refined balance of efficiency and responsiveness compared to the standard model, thanks to its 1.5-litre self-charging hybrid system.

The Bruneian team had the opportunity to experience the model firsthand on a drive starting from the Toyota showroom in Gadong, moving through Bandar Seri Begawan and towards the Jerudong area, covering both busy urban roads and smoother suburban stretches.

In congested traffic around Gadong and the city centre, the hybrid system worked seamlessly between petrol and electric power. At low speeds, electric assistance supported smooth and quiet movement, making stop-start driving more relaxed and less tiring.

On tighter roads heading towards Jerudong, the Vios Hybrid maintained stability with responsive steering and predictable handling. Body roll was kept well controlled for a compact sedan, helping the car feel composed through corners and uneven road sections.

The hybrid powertrain, combining a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and battery system, focuses on efficiency while maintaining everyday drivability. Acceleration is smooth and consistent, with electric assistance providing extra support at lower speeds where it is most useful.

Inside the cabin, the driving experience remains calm and refined. Road, wind and traffic noise are well contained, contributing to a comfortable environment for both driver and passengers. The seating position and layout also support comfort for longer journeys despite the compact size.

Safety and driver assistance systems, including Toyota Safety Sense features, add an extra layer of confidence on the road, particularly in mixed traffic conditions and during highway driving. These systems support the driver while allowing a natural and familiar driving feel.

Overall, the Vios Hybrid brings together improved fuel efficiency, smooth hybrid performance and everyday practicality in a package that remains easy to drive and familiar to existing Vios users. It is well suited for daily commuting as well as longer inter-district travel, offering a balanced mix of comfort, efficiency and reliability.
