Brunei records over 100 new cases, more than 500 recoveries

Brunei recorded 172 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Friday, announced the Minister of Health.

With this new development, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country increased to 139,637.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Md Isham Hj Jaafar also revealed that out of the total number of new cases, 23 were detected through rapid RT-PCR testing and 149 were detected through ART testing.

The number of new cases is the result of 935 laboratory tests conducted in the past 24 hours.

Moreover, 596 individuals have recovered from the infection. To date, the country has recorded a total of 137,780 recoveries.

Currently, there are 1,640 active cases in the country.

It was also reported that 47 active cases are placed in isolation centres and hospitals. Whereas, a total of 1,593 positive cases are currently undergoing home self-isolation

There are no cases under Category 4 that have been admitted for close monitoring and require the aid of oxygen assistance.

Moreover, there are three cases categorised in Category 5 and are being treated at the Intensive Care Unit.

COVID-19 vaccination status

“In regards to the country’s COVID-19 vaccination status, to date, 62.6 per cent of the nation’s population has received three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine,” said the minister.

The minister also shared 21.7% of children aged 5 to 11 years old have received their first vaccination.

“A total of 1,077 doses of vaccine were given to children aged 5 to 11 years old which brings the total number of vaccinations administered to 9,316 doses,” he stated.
