PCBL marks closing of School of Life 2022 programme

PETRONAS Carigali Brunei Ltd (PCBL) recently celebrated the completion of its PETRONAS School of Life 2022 programme which sponsored a total of 300 youths from five local institutions of higher education.

The PETRONAS School of Life is part of PCBL’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative and is intended to help develop the life skills of Bruneian youths with the support of key players in the local community as well as from abroad.

The programme was facilitated by Curious Mind Founder, Shaun Hoon and conducted at participating institutions namely, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Politeknik Brunei.

A total of 30 guest speakers from 10 different industries were invited to share their experiences over an array of real-life topics which include; resilience to relationships, money to mental health as well as other practical skill sets that can help students thrive in their future careers.

During her opening remarks, PCBL Head of HR and Strategic Communications & Admin, Pg Hjh Nor’ Camellia Pg Hj Mohiddin expressed hope that participants of the programme would be more employable and become a “resilient group of leaders who are socially impactful, inclusive and responsible toward the environment when they graduate”.

With the second iteration of the programme coming to a close, Pg Hjh Nor’ Cammellia said that a majority of the participants’ feedback have been positive noting that 90 percent of 120 students surveyed rated the programme as “good and excellent”.

“We are delighted to hear positive feedback from the participants, and this will encourage us to continue the PETRONAS School of Life programme again in the future,” she added.

She went on to express PCBL’s commitment to work hand in hand with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports to cultivate programs that complement the direction of the ministries, to educate the country’s youth, to give back to the community and be a good corporate citizen to Brunei Darussalam.

Following the closing ceremony, five student leaders from the progarmme were chosen to share their testimonials via a panel discussion. Invited students also had the privilege to network, learn and share their experiences with the invited guests.

Present as the Guest of Honour was Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr Hj Azman Ahmad.

Also present were High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Dato’ Raja Reza Raja Zaib Shah, Deputy Permanent Secretary of MoE, Dr Chin Wei Keh along with other government officers, head of institutions, speakers and students.
