Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) recently inked an agreement with Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BRC) for the provision of training to RB’s instructors on psychological first aid.
The programme is a new addition to the national carrier’s current first aid course suite which includes Childcare First Aid, Basic First Aid for Adults and Occupational First Aid.
In his opening remarks, Acting Chief Executive Officer of RB Captain Sabirin Hj Abd Hamid said that safety, welfare, and development of people at RB are at the core of everything they do.
“This ethos is included in our People Pillar for a more sustainable RB; to become the employer of choice and promote the well-being of our people,” he said.
First aid training, he added, is essential to RB’s onboard crew and office staff for their well-being and service to their guests.
“The signing with Brunei Red Crescent Society will expand our first aid training syllabus for our staff with Psychological First Aid. This development in our world leading cabin crew’s training, will provide them with more confidence when they encounter medical or health-related cases onboard, where the first response is critical before professional medical personnel can attain to the case,” said the acting ceo.
He added: “I’m also proud to share that the RB Learning Academy will be a First Aid Training Centre certified by BRC. These courses will also be made available to the public through our RB Learning Academy.”
On his part, Secretary General cum Chief Executive Officer of BRC Society Hj Mohd Suhaimi Hj Ibrahim said that BRC is very delighted not just with the agreement but also for what it represents.
“We are taking the partnership between BRC and RB to a new level. This is very historic. Strong multilateral organisations like ours are more important than ever for bringing communities and nations together,” he said.
The partnership will enable both organisations to work closely in three areas – Expansion of First Aid Course, Psychological/Mental Health First Aid and Joint Task Force in Crisis Management and Disaster Response.
Signing the memorandum of understanding on behalf of RB were Captain Sabirin Hj Abd Hamid and RB Chief Risk Officer Kamal Ariffin Dato Paduka Hj Abd Rahman.
Meanwhile, BRC was represented by President of BRC Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusoff Pengiran Haji Bahar, and Secretary General cum Chief Executive Officer of BRC Society Hj Mohd Suhaimi Hj Ibrahim.
