Baiduri Bank continued its annual ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ initiative with a shopping and sungkai event with families from the Temburong district recently.
The event took place at Hua Ho, One City shopping centre, where volunteers from Baiduri Bank arranged a shopping activity for 10 underprivileged families from Temburong.
The families were identified through the Ministry of Education, and in the spirit of collaboration, the Bank also continued its partnership with Setia Motors as the logistics partner for the event.
Similar to the previous years, this year’s initiative is organised through ‘Baiduri Cares’, an internal programme where employees of Baiduri Bank and its subsidiaries are encouraged to dedicate their time and energy to various volunteering activities.
Present to shop with the volunteers was Manuel Bulens, Deputy CEO, Compliance, Corporate Governance and Legal Support, who spoke about how the culture of volunteerism comes through in Group wide initiatives like ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’.
He said: “The ’Baiduri Cares’ programme encourages our employees to give back to the community and the ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ initiative is the one of many volunteering events that the Bank has in the pipeline this year. Volunteering offers an opportunity for our people to give back to those in need and make a positive impact on society through an investment of their time, skills and efforts.”
Also attending the event was Hj Haliluddin Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib, Managing Director of Baiduri Finance, Leonard Lee, Head of Corporate Banking and Simon Hansman, Head of Group Information and Technology Division.
Now in its seventh year, the ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ initiative is a series of events aimed at bringing festive cheer to underprivileged families in the country in preparation for Hari Raya. It is an important part of a broader effort by Baiduri Bank to support the community through various initiatives, including financial health, entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability.
Last year, due to the restrictions from the pandemic, and for the safety and comfort of the families, the Bank’s volunteers acted as ‘personal shoppers’ and helped to purchase household items and necessities on behalf of the underprivileged families. This year marks a return to the initiative’s usual format, where the Bank’s volunteers spent time shopping with the families themselves and end the event by having sungkai together.
The final event will be held on Wednesday 19 April 2023 at Hua Ho, Yayasan, in the capital with underprivileged families from the Brunei-Muara district.
