His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa‘adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will hold a State Visit to Australia from 19 to 21 June 2023.
The State Visit of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to Australia is at the invitation of His Excellency General The Honourable David John Hurley AC DSC (Rtd), Governor-General of Australia.
During the State Visit, His Majesty, among other things, is expected to meet with His Excellency General The Honourable Governor-General of Australia; and The Honourable Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia and proceed with the signing of the Joint Declaration of a Comprehensive Partnership between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and Commonwealth of Australia.
The close and longstanding relations between Brunei Darussalam and Australia were established on 5th May 1984, where both countries share strong cooperation in a number of areas including the fields of education, trade and investment, defence, connectivity and people-to-people exchanges, as seen through a series of past state visits on 1 to 3 May 2013 and 15 to 20 February 2005.
His Majesty also previously attended the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Sydney in March 2018.
