His Majesty to visit Lao from 3 to 4 October

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will hold a state visit to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic from 3 to 4 October 2023.

During the visit, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is expected to meet His Excellency Thongloun Sisoulith, President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic; His Excellency Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic; and His Excellency Xaysomphone Phomvihane, President of the National Assembly of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

A Joint Declaration of a Strategic Partnership between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic will also be signed during the State Visit.

The State Visit is at the invitation of His Excellency the President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between both countries since the establishment of relations on 27th July 1993.

His Majesty last visited the Lao People’s Democratic Republic for a State Visit in 1998.

In addition, His Majesty also attended the 10th, 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits in 2004 and 2016 respectively, as well as the 9th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in 2012, in which the Lao People’s Democratic Republic was the Chair for these Summits.

Brunei Darussalam and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic share warm and friendly relations in various mutually beneficial areas of cooperation including education, technical assistance, agriculture, energy, culture, youth and sports.
