The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Cabinet Affairs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Experience Exchange on Government Development and Modernization, catalysing the formation of strategic partnerships through the Government Experience Exchange Program (GEEP).
The signing that was held at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai underscored the commitment of Brunei and the UAE to advancing government progress, development and modernisation, while simultaneously highlighting the shared vision of both countries in elevating governance and strengthening international collaboration.
This partnership also embodies strategic alliances, emphasising the friendship between the two countries and the dedication to government development while facilitating collaboration through the exchange of experiences and sharing best practices in public service capacity building, climate change, and renewable energy strategies.
Signing on behalf of the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah. Meanwhile, the signing on behalf of the Government of the UAE was Minister of Cabinet Affairs His Excellency Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi.
Also present to witness the signing was Permanent Secretary (Civil Service Governance) at the PMO Ajman Haji Meludin.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah was in Dubai to attend the World Governments Summit 2024 from 12 to 14 February 2024, which is a summit themed ‘Shaping Future Governments’ to promote international cooperation and enable governments to identify innovative solutions for future challenges to inspire the next generation of government.
The GEEP, initiated by the Government of the United Arab Emirates serves as a platform dedicated to sharing knowledge and expertise to foster best practices for enhancing institutional capacity in government development and modernization.
With the signing of the MoU, Brunei is the first ASEAN member state to engage in the programme, which provides opportunities for the exchange of valuable experiences and best practices between both countries.
