Radisson Hotel Brunei Darussalam collected a total of 114 pints of blood at its recent blood donation drive held at Mutiara Ballroom.
The one-day campaign was hosted with the Blood Donation Centre at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital to commemorate World Blood Day held every 14 June.
The annual initiative serves as a global platform to raise awareness of the need for safe blood supplies and to appreciate donors for their life-saving contributions.
The initiative was also in line with the hotel’s commitment to responsible business practices and community welfare.
General Manager of Radisson Hotel Brunei Darussalam Miriam Wolber shared that they are delighted to host the campaign with the blood bank supported by their generous partners.
“Our goal is to raise awareness about the significance of blood donation and encourage our guests and the local community to unite with us positively impacting the lives of others,” said the general manager, adding that every help matters as one blood donation could save up to three lives.
Attendees of the drive comprised members of the public and staff at Radisson Hotel who were frequent and first-time donors.
In an interview, frequent donor Suhanizam Hj Osman said that blood donation is a yearly initiative for him and that he understands the benefits of donating blood.
“I always make sure to donate twice a year and it is for those who need blood, saving the lives of others. I feel good and refreshed after donating. I understand that some are afraid of the needles but just try, as it is for a good cause,” said the 43-year-old.
For first-time donor Anna Ting, despite her fear of the needle, she took the courage to make her way to the drive, knowing that blood supplies in the country are low.
“I know that one pint of blood can save up to three lives. I overcame my fear and requested a smaller needle. I am grateful for the kind help from the staff of the blood bank for attending to me, it was seamless,” said the 35-year-old, adding that she would donate again.
Sharing the same sentiment, first-time donor Hazirah Ismail said that she has become more aware of the benefits of donating blood, taking the initiative to help the blood bank with their supplies.
“Before this, the thought of the needle going into the arm scared me, but I pulled through, bearing in mind that it is for those who need blood. I felt great that I have accomplished something,” said the HR of Radisson Hotel.
The donors shared that they would encourage the public to donate as it is not only for a good cause but also beneficial to one’s health.
The event was also enlivened by the support and participation of Bread Times, Gongcha, Juteux Apparel, MINT, Wiqa from Sanctuory, Subbstation, URBN Kitchen and Yamyam Korea.
